although i'd prefer it if we shipped a minimal matrix-react-sdk client so folks could just jump straight in. (or that matrix.to supported a ?homeserver= style option so that at least the target clients then took you to talk to the right HS)

I remain unconvinced about the need to ship a client with synapse, ftr. I see enough people getting confused about the distinction between clients and servers (and thinking that they have to use the client that ships with their HS) that I think we would be better off separating them and making people jump through a separate hoop to install a client.

(Also: the debian package doesn't include a client. We should at least be consistent.)

please can we ditch it in favour of a link to matrix.to? See element-hq/element-web#2908 for example pain with the current setup...
