Basic Implementation Question

Hello

I just installed and activated the plugin. On a fresh WP 3.2.1 installation.

I then entered:

get_timeline(); ?>

into footer.php

Viewing the page shows this error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function get_timeline() on a non-object in /wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/footer.php on line 12

Also entering the short code [mf-timeline] into a page/post content only adds the text "[mf-timeline]" to the content, nothing else happens.

Where am I supposed to enter either of the above codes to product the desired effect ?
