Devise strategy for :map`` syntax

On porting the userguide from RST, we have our custom :map: syntax that pandoc doesn't know how to port. We could actually retain it in markdown, and make our own custom gitbook plugin to utilise our xref_map.py file to provide correct links from the website to the API docs.
