Be able to undo a switch into multiline mode

Right now, if you try to undo across a switch to multiline then it crashes.

Rather than just make it impossible to undo, this might be one that's worth being able to undo. Perhaps any multiline input would have an undo step switching it into a single line mode? This adds steps, but gives a good ergonomic feeling.
