serial connection to pxt

I am trying to connect to https://makecode.microbit.org/ using your extension and I am not able to get the serial data to show up in the simulator. I can however run it locally and get it to work. I have tried loading and unloading the extension several times. I do notice that a serial connection is made and the port does get occupied but it isn't being displayed on the website. thanks
