Please recommend the Astro extension for `.astro` files

Princesseuh opened this issue ยท 5 comments

Hello! I'm Erika from the Astro team, where I mainly specialize on our language server and its associated VS Code extension

We officially recommend our extension inside our documentation and all of our starters ship a .vscode/extensions.json that recommends the extension, which has been working great for us so far!

We'd love it if VS Code could also recommend the extension automatically to people opening .astro files much like it does recommend Volar when the user opens a .vue file

Our extension is verified, has over 20k downloads and no alternatives exists, so it should be pretty safe to recommend

Thank you in advance

Hi Erika, thanks for opening this issue. I like your extension and I appreciate that you got it verified and that it also works on vscode.dev and github.dev (it is a web extension).

Recommending your extension for .astro files is a fair request. I have to think more about this, but assigning to this milestone so this does not slip under my radar.

Thanks!

@Princesseuh when I open an .astro file, VS Code recommends to search the marketplace and thanks to being verified and having the most downloads the official Astro extension is shining on the top of the list.

So I am not sure if the other recommendation will improve discovery, as it just removes one click.

I agree with @digitarald that the current flow is pretty good. So for now let's keep this as it is and we can revisit this in the future.
So let's assign to the backlog.

I agree that the current workflow is already pretty good and should lead to good discovery

Thank you for considering it ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope we can make it happen in the future!
