Netlify is such a fantastic hosting service, and they offer some advice on domain configuration to take full advantage of their CDN.
They have a tool to test your site and it offers suggestions on thing to change: https://testmysite.io/58a5afffc4d9cc701077310d/middlemanapp.com
We are currently scoring 58/100.
I’m not sure how our DNS is configured now, but it looks like we can get a few wins by making some adjustments:
- “We highly recommend using a www domain instead of an apex domain (ie. www.example.com instead of example.com.”
- “You should always link your domain to Netlify with a CNAME record when possible, and avoid using an A record with a single IP.”

Yeah, they've had SSL and DNS problems related to this as well. Personally, sounds like their bug to fix. A top level domain is pretty common and typing dub dub dub feels archaic.
