Error in Presentation of Kenya Polling Data

Opened this issue · 11 comments

Hello Team,

I downloaded the pollingstations shapefiles from your site for use in Power BI analysis but the data is not rendering well with the shape map visualization in Power BI

Kindly see attached screen shots and help.

@bosirejustine Looks to me like there are polling places misplaced due to incorrect longitude in the source data. The data distributed here results from scraping data shared by IEBC years ago, and I did no work to QA or clean up the data. You might be able to correct the data by looking in detail at the misplaced points, and repositioning them

@bosirejustine then I suggest filtering them out before you load in PowerBI. Could do in QGIS, or scripting.

@bosirejustine I went into QGIS, loaded the pollingstations layer, went into edit mode, selected the points outside Kenya, hit delete, exited edit mode, and saved the layer as a new file.

pollingstations_clipped.zip

Note there were 10,052 polling stations misplaced and deleted.

no attachments came through @bosirejustine. you may need to post directly in github

Hello Mikel,
See below images

@bosirejustine the second map is using the ward boundaries I think, not the polling places

@bosirejustine well there is boundaries data as well you use. can't help with specific rendering questions in PowerBI. As long as the error you pointed out has been addressed with https://github.com/mikelmaron/kenya-election-data/files/5988814/pollingstations_clipped.zip, I'd like to go ahead and close this ticket.
