I think this might be happening when we reparse an old log file when we do a deploy?

It looked like we were using the default log rotation setup for the mail logs which was causing two problems. One problem was this one. The other is that the logs would take a long time to reparse on each deploy which isn't great. So now, instead with the changes made in 046b04b and 42eed0c we're using a setup similar to that used by Alavetelli where the logs are rotated once per day and when they're rotated they're annotated with the last data which is helpful.
