More non-testnet live network tests via python hooks

By submitting this issue, I confirm the following:

- I have checked that the issue I am reporting can be replicated or that the feature I am suggesting is not present.
- I have checked opened or recently closed pull requests for existing solutions/implementations to my issue/suggestion.
We have a docker testnet but, as mentioned in #872 (comment), I'd like to see more live tests - preferably using python hooks. We have boost.python integrated and ready; we just need more expansion in that area.
