Is this project abandoned?

Has the Dev abandoned this project? I posted a review https://www.noteapps.ca/quillnote (free subscription required to read the full review). If others are maintaining, there's some feedback in the review which may be useful. I've email'd Michael a few times with no response. Part of my evaluation of apps is their support / maintenance. Thanks to anyone out there maintaining the app

I hope not.

No response in a half year, I think the question is answered.

So sad, this was the perfect solution for notes with sync computer <-> cloud <-> mobile :(

It would be great to know if the app is really abandoned. If it is the case, we should move to some other app.

If anyone heard about a maintained fork, please let us know.

+1 to this

I've created a new org for this app and cloned the repo there. I'm planning on fixing the issues a little bit, and I will follow up with any new PRs created in here as well.

Great news, thanks for picking up the development!

Two questions:

  1. Do you plan to publish it on F-Droid?
  2. Will you change the app's name to avoid confusion with this one?

First of all I want to thank you for doing this. I have searched so much for quillnotes alternative which is free & opensource but haven't found anything. Quillnotes is really unique.

Now what I wanted to know is how does this work for users? Will we get the update same way like before from fossdroid? Or will we have to install the app with new name or something and transfer the notes to new app?

Thank you for your support.

Do you plan to publish it on F-Droid / Google play?

Yes. But, I have not released anything before to F-Droid / Play store and I have to figure things out. This also depends on the app package name and signing

New name & new app / update existing.

I would like to continue the new development on the same app name and publish fixes as updates to the existing app. To do that, I'd need access to the app bundle signing keys for play store. But this totally depends on if we hear back from @msoultanidis - about if he's open to perform the app release himself or add additional people as admins to this repository and automate the publishing workflow or provide users with access to Google Play console to publish new version. If not, it'll be a new app with a new name.

Transferring notes if it's gonna be a new app

There is a Backup / Restore option build into the current app. Since the new app is gonna be just a fork, users can backup notes from the old app and restore it in the new app.

Not my business, but I'd suggest to charge some money for the app in Google Play Store as many other FOSS solutions do (Nextcloud News for instance). Money might be not the main reason for developers to abandon their software but for sure helps if you can monetize some of your time.

As it was said before, I believe this software is amazing and unique as no other apps have this features.

I'd be happy to do it if I wrote 99% of the code in this app, but I've not.

Please keep us updated with any news/developments. I think this topic gathers all people interested in your fork.

Once again, thank you for keeping the app alive!

The license allows you to do so. And can keep all the money you think it's fair to cover your time and invest in more developers or donate the rest. That'd be up to you. Don't give your time for free if there is a fair way to monetize it (and I'm telling this as a happy user of the app).

I think monetising it right away might be a bit of a tough move morally.
If, however, this fork establishes itself and major work has happened over there I think it would be fair to charge a little bit on the playstore.

I've published to both F-Droid and Google play store under the name Quillpad. Both are currently still under initial review. The APK is available for download in the repository release page.
https://github.com/quillpad/quillpad/releases/tag/v1.4.4

There are a lot of issues addressed in this APK with many from the pending PRs. Some functionality fixes from issues like #146 #179 #64 are also in there.
