Authentication required notice when attempting to create a new entry

In some cases, a logged-in user can see an "authentication required" notice when attempting to create a new entry (navigating to whatgotdone.com and then redirection to https://whatgotdone.com/entry/edit/2022-04-15).
This might be due to a stale login - I could still reach my profile, or the preferences page, but could not add an entry. The issue is fixed after logging out and logging back in.
