Feature request: icon for preferences

It's very nice to be able to use command , to open Preferences, but it would be even easier to discover the Preferences if there were a visible avenue by which to reach it through the UI.
One possible way to accomplish this would be to place an icon (a ⚙ icon, maybe? but there's probably a better icon that could be used, even if it's not an emoji) on the right side of the search field when no search has been entered. This icon would then be replaced by the x in the circle once the user started entering text.
Personally I'd prefer not to play hide and seek with the settings icon, but I do think it should be more accessible. Like, if you click to delete text but accidentally click again, it would probably be a little frustrating for the settings area to pop up unexpectedly. Maybe instead right click menu option in the system tray area instead? I like the idea of a UI component as well, but location is a good question (just as long as it isn't swapping in and out with the x icon).
