Display IP Address as wallpaper on Debian login screen for VM

Opened this issue · 0 comments

About 30% of the time I boot up my MyNode VM, the host machine can't resolve mynode.local -- even though the client is getting it's IP from the host. So instead I have to login to the VM machine twice (once into Debain login screen and then again into MyNode). Then I have to navigate to settings page to get the machines IP so that I can then use that IP to connect to the node.

Note: I don't use the node on 24-7 as it's a mobile node that is connected to the laptop which is always in the go.

It would be a huge time saver if the Debian login screen displayed the machines IP address, similar to have AWS sets the desktop wallpaper to include an instances info. That way I'd never have to log in to the VM. I could just glance at the VM client see the IP, and drop that into my wallet or whatever tool I need to connect to the node.

I realize the AWS screenshot below is the logged in state of that VM, but if there is any way to display the IP of the machine in the VM GUI without requiring 2 logins plus a navigation to settings, that would save time and be a better overall user experience. Connecting to your node is like the #1 thing we need it for, making that easier seems like a good priority.
