Regions of Interest is the product of a collaboration between Maria Loks-Thompson and photographer Natalia Podgórska. The 6-channel video installation investigates the influence of intimacy and affection on the performance of a state of the art computer vision model - mask-RCNN. Focusing on the gap between human and machine perception, the project highlights misconceptions and inadequacies implicit in the notion of personhood as learned and internalised by the algorithm.
