Can't go into pose mode

Hi,
I've built my armature okay, but when I try to go into pose mode, it immediately switches to object mode and selects both the sprites and the armature. I assume this isn't supposed to happen, is there an easy fix on my end? I'm using Blender 2.83, and the addon is from the Blender28 Tree with the file write access fixed

Okay, I created a new file, and it turns out there's only issues when switching from edit more using tab instead of the button provided by the addon
