Projects, workshops - Melbs

Closed this issue · 9 comments

Any particular projects / workshops interest ideas that anyone wants to see.

I know @hadimichael was considering some ML stuff and @geekscape was considering some Pixy and MeshThing things?

We've got ARDX kits available as well as SimpleBot kits so those are definitely good to go.

I've got a couple of bluetooth modules and I also have a couple of WiFi-Serial modules too so potentially can go wireless (before going "full mesh").

As we've got a couple of weeks, I'm assuming we can create materials for anything else if we have parts to hand.

Any suggestions?

Cheers
Andrew

I'm still keen on the ML breakout. I liked @ajfisher's suggestions:

  1. Use the camera to learn an object, and then follow it (would work well with Pixy stuff), OR
  2. Learn from stimuli, say from a button sequence, but then react to light sequence

To do this, we'd need serial cameras that we can hook into J5. Cameras could be used for both examples above and would get people into CV stuff... Also, maybe having a couple of ready made bots would be good, so people could get straight into the ML.

Didn't quite get to this. @hadimichael suggest maybe we pick this up in a session at Hack Melb?

Yeah, I forgot how long it can take, for people to get up and running with the basics. But now that people have that, maybe there will be interest to take it to the next level.

Hack Melb would be a good way to do it. Let's discuss it at the debrief - we can close this issue for now. Thanks.

For these types of workshops, when we are mostly assisting attendees during the day ... it is unlikely that we get any (significant) hacking done ourselves. What we've got prepared before-hand is pretty much what we'll end up running with. And, that's not a bad thing ... it just places more empathsis on good preparation.

How does this coming Wednesday ENR (robots) sessions at the CCHS on July 30th sounds for a de-brief ?

We can also decide whether we want to make the Wednesday on August 6th be the first "first Wednesday of the month" NodeBots session.

I intend to have the Wednesday ENR (robots) sessions be weekly from now on. And, in particular using them as a good time to hang-out with NodeBots Day organizers / helpers ... making forward progress on SimpleBot V4, Pixy (camera), Machine Intelligence, MeshThing, etc. Using that as a regular preparation session for next time.

@andykitchen is great in all things AI/ML ( and demoing this stuff ). Wonder if we could get him on board

I'll ask now...

Sorry for closing. I did a bulk close of anything without comment for 2 years.

Yes, @andykitchen is great ! There has been some stealth A.I NN hacking going on in the background ... with an aim to bring "worked examples" to the next NodeBots Days (and also the next BuzzConf) events.

Closing this out now in prep for NBD 2018
