tiny11-image cannot be installed as VM with Oracle VirtualBox 7.1.12

Opened this issue · 15 comments

  1. ISO creation worked fine with tiny11
  2. Try to create a new VM in VirtualBox 7.1.12 with default params
  3. started VM setup from mounted ISO. Worked
  4. On next screen the setup fails to load any driver (for emulated VDI?)
  5. tried some other storage and chipset settings without success.

Same!VMWare 17.6.2

Seems as if the VirtIO driver isnt being loaded or isnt in the iso. Fixed it by downloading VirtIO drivers from the proxmox wiki and mounted the iso as a second DVD using the IDE interface. Then went to vioscsi folder and found the driver for windows 11. If you load the driver it should work. Please note this has only been tested on proxmox.

Also if ethernet and other drivers are not there the ones in the iso might work

Might want to rename issue as it seems to be affecting multiple VM software

I have the same problem with Proxmox, except that I can't solve it with VirtIO drivers.

Which W11 build did you use?

Downloaded the latest off Microsoft's website and ran it through the tiny11 script.

Quick question what machine type are you fusing in proxmox and were you able to even load a driver?

Okay, so the 24H2 image as well.

The machine type is pc-q35-10.0.

I can't load any drivers in Tiny11. Additional error message for some drivers:

A media driver required for the computer is missing.

Stock W11 works without drivers.

Ok, try to add the iso for the drives as a cd rom using IDE then when you get to the screen to pick a install disk click load driver and navigate to vioscsi folder and to the w11. The driver should pop up. That's what worked for me and I just did it again on a vm.

It seems to be due to my Tiny11 image. For whatever reason.

I can see that the VirtIO iso is correctly integrated, but when I select the Virscsi drivers, I get a message saying that no drivers were found.

When I uncheck the box for incompatible drivers, I can see the drivers but I can't install them.

This is what the Proxmox Config looks like for the machine:

Everything is the same as mine except I have host set as the cpu type and I have no tpm on it. Odd

If the iso mounted as a cd using IDE works can't you just make a new drive and mount it as IDE and install it then the drivers? I'd assume you can just select the disk image and remount it as data or scsi after that.

I had the same idea, but see the picture. No change.

I've now had the Tiny11 image built for the second time. I'm running out of ideas.

I won't be able to get to it till Monday but I'll play around with it and see if I can figure it out.

ok, quick question @Deluxxfreak. Under Guest OS what are you selecting?
I believe I totally forgot to set it when I setup the vm pretty sure I kept it on linux 6.x kernel.
I tried setting up as guest os win 11/2022/2025 with the add additional drive for virtIO. and it didnt work. Seems as if it is a config that is modified by selecting Windows as the guest os.
Try putting guest os as Linux 6.x and manually add the virtIO as a IDE cd drive. It let me install it even without the TPM Module in the VM.

Managed to install it regularly with a new VM with windows as the guest OS and navigating to the vioscsi>w11>amd64

Thank you for your Testing. I tried to install on bare Metall and it failed again.

Then i took a look at the log and found:

So it seems like i need to work on a working Image. :D

Was a me Problem. Fixed it with enough Disk Space on C:
