Software issues

Hello,

First off I want to say that thank you for this software as I have been able to get it to work more then the PCPanel Software. When I first downloaded the software I downloaded the 1.6 version and this didnt work on my machine at all the panel wouldnt show up. I tried restarting, running as admin ect. I then deleted all the files in app data and with uninstall programs. I downloaded v1.5 and the panel didnt show up at first, again I restarted my pc, nothing, then I closed it with task manager and opened it as admin. This time the panel showed up and I was able to configure and use it. I turned off my machine and came back to it the next morning to find that the panel wouldnt show up and I had to restart the whole process.

Could you advise on what to do from here? Is it suppose to have this behavior? I would really like to get this more consistent and working. I contacted PC panel about all of this and heard nothing back after a week. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any indication in the logfiles as to what might be going wrong (Settings, Logs, Open Logs Folder, and then the logging.log file)?
It's not supposed to have this behavior, I haven't seen it not being able to connect as of yet. Due to it being solvable by uninstalling etc I'd expect it not to be a hardware issue.

i am having this same issue, if it helps i both have a pcpanel pro and a mini, the controls still work but it doesnt show up in software and the lights do not turn on.

nothing in logs stand out to me other than the obs websocket failing because i do not have obs open

Without logging it might be quite hard to figure out what is going on.

One word of caution before these instructions, running the 1.7 shapshot will convert the profile, backup the profiles.json in %userprofile%\.pcpanel and restore it after going back to the previous version.

The latest 1.7 snapshot (Build 140) has a command line argument that will log some debug information. Could you download and install it, shut down the application when it starts and then run it with the hiddebug argument:

%localappdata%\PCPanel\PCPanel.exe skipfilecheck hiddebug

After 10 seconds. there should then be a file: %userprofile%\.pcpanel\hid-debug.txt which lists all hid-devices. This should look something like this:

Starting HID Debug
Device attached: ...
Device attached: ...
HID Debug started
Waiting 10 seconds...
...
Device attached: HidServicesEvent{hidDevice=HidDevice [path=\\?\hid#vid_0483&pid_a3c5#a&2cb77e09&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}, vendorId=0x483, productId=0xa3c5, serialNumber=5D43E1353833, releaseNumber=0x200, manufacturer=PCPanel Holdings LLC, product=PCPanel Pro 1.0, usagePage=0xffffff00, usage=0x1, interfaceNumber=-1]}
...
Waited 10 seconds, stopping

If the pcpanel is connected, there should be a line like the one shown. For 10 seconds after the command was run, you could also try and connect/disconnect the pcpanel to see if those events trigger.

Could you try and see if the hid-debug output shows the pcpanel device(s)?

@Benzeel: With "the controls still work", do you mean that actions that you have configured for the device before are executed? I wouldn't have expected the software to do anything if the device isn't found. Does the (regular) log show a line like this at startup?

2023-02-19T13:25:59.371+01:00 INFO 12388 --- [hid4java event worker] com.getpcpanel.hid.DeviceScanner : FOUND PCPANEL : HidDevice [path=\\?\hid#vid_0483&pid_a3c5#a&2cb77e09&0&0000#{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}, vendorId=0x483, productId=0xa3c5, serialNumber=5D43E1353833, releaseNumber=0x200, manufacturer=PCPanel Holdings LLC, product=PCPanel Pro 1.0, usagePage=0xffffff00, usage=0x1, interfaceNumber=-1]

Here is the file you are looking for.

@nvdweem Is this ticket still open?

The ticket is still open, but looking at the log it seems that the PCPanel isn't connected (or not found).

I'd expect there to either be an issue with the hardware that doesn't allow it to be found (which would require you to contact the PCPanel people) or something with the USB controller. I have seen USB controllers have issues when there are multiple devices connected, so you could try and see what happens if you connect the PCPanel to another USB port and/or with less other devices connected.
Reconnecting the device for me doesn't trigger any sounds, but the Device Manager does refresh if I (dis)connect it. Does that happen for you as well? If not then that could be further indication that there is something wrong in Windows.

The PCPanel people have been slow in responding before, but from what I can tell they do seem to reply if you contact them via Reddit (usually pointing people to the contact form). You could either post a message on the Reddit page, or message Chris-PCPanel.
