Message ID for notification mails regarding the same FOI request

Problem

When you get a lot of mails for a lot of (your own or followed) requests it is somewhat hard to keep track of all.
One problem is that there is one mail for each reply and each sent message (even if it is just a reminder mail).

Proposed solution

Could not you use Message IDs for each FOI request n your notification mails? This would allow mail clients to group them together, so I can easily delete all mails for old notifications, as I only need to click the link on the latest mail and read everything there.
Afterwards, I can delete all mails regarding the one case together.

The 'request sent' mail has now a message-id that is referenced and 'reply-to'ed in subsequent notification mails for that request.

Great! 😃

'request sent' mail

Okay, I hope it does also work/apply if I just follow a request then from someone else…, because these make up the majority of my inbox. 😄

Ah interesting, it doesn't work for follow mails yet. For follow mails we are kind of missing the 'thread starter' mail. We would need to be able to generate reproducible but unique message-ids for these mails to reference any previous ones, tricky especially for the last day digest mail. Need to think about this some more then.

I guess the message ID does not need to be secret and can also be shared across all followers of a request, does not it?

Then why not generate one unique one for each request page (or just use an existing number such as the request ID) and send that to all followers?
It could then easily be added to any mails…
