CPU consumption of sound playback accumulates (eventually resulting in distortions)

A simple experiment that plays a single sound many times over starts to consume more and more CPU resources. Memory consumption does not increase. So it's like a CPU-consumption-leak of sorts. After a while (about 700 playbacks on my test system), this causes audible distortions.
