Over current protection on bus-type nanogrids

How should the standard address over-current protection?

It’s clear that we need some kind of over-current protection. Using e-fuse type over-current does not violate the IEC rule about semiconductor isolation but does impose risks that thermal fuses don’t have as MOSFETs can fail in a shorted condition. There are a bunch of sub-questions like:

  • Do both poles need over-current protection? If no, what about ground faults?
  • Where is the architecture is over-current protection required? Loads? All circuits emerging from a bus-bar?
