Issues with OpenFyde and FydeOS

Opened this issue · 0 comments

I'm posting this here as its impossible to register in the actual FydeOS forum.

  1. Dark Patterns: On install, the default should be offline account, and you should not push for an online account, the way its setup, is clearly a dark pattern, this rings alarm bells for me straight away.
  2. Browser Profiles: Without the ability to sandbox progressive web apps, and create profiles, it makes this operating system all but useless, there is zero privacy when forcing a user to use a single profile for everything, logging out and back in under a new account is total rubbish, this has been needed now for many years, all other privacy focussed browsers support this by default.
  3. Hardware Support: Most laptops and tablet PC's of recent years do have the ability to upgrade the wifi/bluetooth card, and is something users will do, especially if you have an older machine with a wifi 4 capable card, its very common for people to install an AC or AX M.2 wifi card, and the OpenFyde/FydeOS team doesnt seem to understand this, forcing one to manually upgrade the Kernel, which in turn kills Android App support and breaks other things in the OS.
  4. Creating a FydeOS Account for the Discussion Forum: Not sure what craziness is going on here, as its impossible to actually create an account to raise any issues, probably why the forum is so dead, one must verify their email with a code, you get 60 seconds?? WTF I cant even receive the email, copy and paste then complete the form without it timing out, and when I finally did do it after 12 or 13 attempts with 10 seconds to spare, it still fails, tried on Windows, Linux and OpenFyde, in Chrome, Brave and FireFox, all was a complete waste of time, maybe the team behind all this should change this system to: wait for one to register, send an email, click to verify and job done.
  5. OpenFyde: Is this OpenFyde or FydeOS? I download and install OpenFyde, but every second thing refers to FydeOS, for OpenFyde to be OpenFyde, consider stripping out any reference to FydeOS, the FydeOS store, FydeOS AI bull crap, FydeOS accounts etc....
  6. Kernel Version: Upgrade this to at least 6.6 then you wont need all these different versions of the operating system, the OS should then support older and newer hardware.

I can go on, but I'm sure my point is made, this OS seems to be great, but its plagued with glaring issues that could be fixed easily, but it seems these issues are just being ignored.

I also cant see any discussions elsewhere on the web about OpenFyde or FydeOS, which also leaves me wondering about the validity of the project, I would like to support it, but until this project proves itself as open, safe and privacy focussed, I wont be using it.

Also if others are interested, most machines I have tested this OS on, do not fully function, this includes hardware buttons, GPS, 4G Mobile, Power Management, Newer Wifi and Bluetooth, if you manually upgrade the Kernel, then most of these things start working.
