I am prefacing my comment with the fact that I am a general consumer.

The edx videos can take up A LOT of data, so is there a way to save these to the SD card? This would mean that large videos wouldn't take up all the internal storage.

This project is in the works :) I can't give you an estimate but it is definitely on our roadmap.

Any update on this? I've got plenty of SD card space for these videos but no remaining internal storage for them :(

Is there any update on this issue?
It seems 2 years have passed and I have no option to save video to memory card.

1 - If you are a developer, then check out our latest master branch and enable downloads on SD Card by setting the DOWNLOAD_TO_SD_CARD_ENABLED flag to true. More info can be found on this ticket: https://openedx.atlassian.net/browse/LEARNER-6166
2 - If you are a learner, then keep your fingers crossed as we are planning to roll out this feature very soon on our PlayStore app (currently we are doing some edge cases testing).

As we have rolled out the feature in the release and its live in edX app as well, i am closing this issue.
For the information 'download to sd-card' feature is in beta version now, so some issues could be experienced on some particular device models.
