Additional Equinix Aisle containment requirements (Amsterdam)

Closed this issue · 2 comments

Equinix are pushing harder on their hot / cold aisle containment requirements. This issue is to track any work required.

Existing deployments will be audited in the coming months to ensure compliance with the guidelines. If you receive an IBX Policy Violation notification, IBX Operations will work with you to remediate in a mutually acceptable timeline.

New deployments must comply with the updated guidelines; the following are examples of clarified standards now available:

  • New designs must include the installation of aisle containment systems for all IBXs.
  • Additional accessories are required to maintain airtight cold and hot aisles; examples include but are not limited to brush strips and air-duct accessories.
  • Side panels are required unless suitable accessories are used to ensure cold aisles remain sealed.

All servers face cold side correctly.

Our switches currently face rear of rack and have incorrect airflow (AFO, instead of AFI). Switching to AFI is ~£200 per switch. We created basic ducting which may not be up to spec. We'll find out.

Proper ducting is not cheap: https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDetail/Panduit/DDPK-KIT?qs=1Kr7Jg1SGW8xGNQoLqlRUg%3D%3D or https://www.ledcontrols.co.uk/sk3301-391-rittal-air-duct-for-horizontal-air-flow-h-1-u-depth-variable-223-356mm.html

Not required unless Equinix ask us to amend our setup. I will close for now and re-open if required.
