Currently everything is unpacked to a temp directory on each startup. If instead some more permanent cache folder was used (e.g. something under XDG_CACHE_HOME) along with a hash of the zip file to ensure the data is not stale, the startup could probably be significantly sped up.
This will almost certainly mainly involve changes to stickytape.
