python3.7.12 user installation of NetfilterQueue in ubuntu20.04.3

nunoapaiva opened this issue · 2 comments

With python3.7.12, a month ago I was able to use without a problem:

python -m pip --proxy http://myproxy:80 install -U git+https://github.com/kti/python-netfilterqueue

Now it does not work and while trying to perform the installation with NetfilterQueue, I get a lot of errors:

$ python -m pip --proxy http://myproxy:80 install NetfilterQueue
Defaulting to user installation because normal site-packages is not writeable

This appears to be a bug in pip: it doesn't pass its proxy server to the child process that it uses to perform an isolated build. Try:

pip install --proxy http://myproxy:80 wheel
pip install --proxy http://myproxy:80 --no-build-isolation NetfilterQueue

It might also work to do env https_proxy=http://myproxy:80 pip install NetfilterQueue, because perhaps the environment variable gets passed to the child process, but I don't have a proxy handy so I can't verify for sure.

Your proposal for the separated installation of wheel and the installation of NetFilterQueue with --no-build-isolation solved the problem.
Thanks!
