This is not working at all for me on Fedora Linux 40, KDE Spin, with Wayland:

I propose to try migrating to https://github.com/vinceglb/FileKit to see if that fixes the issue.

Unfortunately, that library has the same problem as it also uses AWT underneath for the JVM, see the file-picker-experiment branch.
