WT8-A (Encore 1) issues

PS.: Sorry, accidentally pressed "Enter" on the title and it just called it "E" at first ๐
Heya!
First of all thanks a lot for this build and fix :) I wanted to give it a try on my WT8-A (Encore 1) to see if it also works well, and yes it actually does! But sadly it seems to have the same issues as BlissOS does with newer kernels. I tried it with 4.19 and 4.9 there, but on 4.19 it'd randomly crash and just stay on the last rendered screen until you force-turn-off the device, and on 4.9 sleep wouldn't work at all.
Sadly on the 5.x kernel the 8.1r5 build uses it seems to have the same freezing issue. Not sure if this is simply just related to the WT8-A there or if this can somehow be fixed? Would love to give this tablet a new life and so far this Github repo seems to be the only and closest so far which tries to achieve this, tho for its bigger brother.
Thanks already for an answer even if this is an unsupported device :) Heavily and greatly appreciated ^^
What exactly is the issue that is occuring on my build? Random crashes while using the device, or do they happen more around power saving/sleep mode? The random crashes sound like the c-state bug, you can try using the following GRUB bootloader kernel argument and see if ithelps: intel_idle.max_cstate=1
My build doesn't specifically target the WT8-A, but if you can run the following commands in a terminal and paste them here that would be helpful to try and support it:
cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_name
cat /sys/class/dmi/id/uevent
cat /proc/asound/cards
cat /proc/asound/card0/id
cat /sys/kernel/debug/gpio
cat /sys/kernel/debug/pmc_atom/sleep_state -> run after wake from sleep
I may have more, but that will give me some info to go off from. Thanks!
What exactly is the issue that is occurring on my build?
The issue isn't on your build specifically, but as mentioned also occurs on BlissOS :) So I heavily guess it's Kernel related.
After some time using the tablet it'll just freeze on the last screen it displayed, not responding to any kind of button press incl. power button anymore. I can't actively reproduce this, sometimes it happens a minute into using the tablet, sometimes it works fine for 30 minutes, other times it doesn't seem to freeze at all.
Random crashes while using the device, or do they happen more around power saving/sleep mode?
Doesn't matter, it randomly occurs both when freshly booted or having it in sleep and waking it up again, then using it. In both instances it freezes whenever it wants.
The random crashes sound like the c-state bug, you can try using the following GRUB bootloader kernel argument and see if ithelps: intel_idle.max_cstate=1
Will try and see if that increases stability, gonna be hard to test tho since I can't actively reproduce this issue.
My build doesn't specifically target the WT8-A
I know :) But so far this seems to be the only repo/you're the only one wanting to support any kind of those devices. I thought opening an issue would be my best bet giving this otherwise completely unused, for todays standards underpowered device a second life as a car entertainment system.
Thanks already for trying and adding support man, really appreciated! :)

Appreciate the reply :) So it looks like sound is working but S0ix is not (the W10T-A also has S0ix issues with that latest build, while the WT8-B does not, and I've struggled to figure out why exactly this is) I'm leaning towrds the GPU causing the issues but cannot say for certain.
Could you also provide a printout of lsmod
? Just curious what kernel modules are currently loading.

Also, another thing I just discovered: I don't think it goes into full sleep either. The vibration when pressing the Windows-Key on front still occurs which, if the tablet is in "sleep" shouldn't be there but doesn't actually turn the screen itself on. Or is this normal behavior?
I don't think it goes into full sleep either. Is this normal behavior?
Yes and No. It's "normal" because the power management and S0ix power states aren't functioning properly, but may also be related to other modules and things preventing sleep from fully occuring. My build does include a script to help with this, but it's not loading/targeting your particualr model. I'll try and release an updated build for 8.1r5 that does target the WT8-A and see if that helps at all.
Thanks man :)
