no support for greyscale images

I have some black and white images (see attached example) that are corrupted or just blank in the final PDF, while images with color in them look great. Is this issue#3 related to the problem I am seeing?

The red circle is showing the corrupted version of the image above, the blue circle is around another similar image that is showing up as blank in the PDF.
Update: As a test, I added a single blue colored pixel in the corner of each image and they all show up perfectly. Something about having only black and white without any color breaks the image processing. I will use the color pixel workaround for now, but a fix for black and white line art would be great.
