Unable to change audio input device

I have an external USB mic that I would like to use for onenote's audio dictation feature. However, when I try to change my input device to that and click on the Save button, it does not change any settings. And if I open that setting again, it again shows the built in mic. Therefore, I am unable to change the setting in any meaningful way.

Update: I tried it in my Microsoft Edge and turns out the same error is there as well. So it's probably not an application issue though the feature works fine in Firefox, which lets you fix the audio input device at the browser level. So if you could possibly implement something like that, then it would be great.

i think it is chrome dependent in ubuntu/linux.
