lots of errors from npm install

hopefully i'm not doing something incredibly bone-headed here, but I've just cloned the repo and run npm install and the terminal gets quite a few errors :(

i'm running macOS Big Sur

Node-sass always seems to be problematic to install. Try and see if you can install it directly into the project and then try again.

Tried this:

npm install node-sass

The massive pile of ERRs remains.
Is there another approach you can recommend ?
