"smart quotes" macro deletes formatting within quotation marks

Problem
The "replace with" backreferences in OpenOffice seem to ignore format tags.

Example
Before:
"Can I get some help?"
After Format all to BE style:
‘Can I get some help?’

Possible solution
Create search-and-replace commands without backreferences.
