Keep a simple text expanding mechanism possible

I had been using MacOS since 1995. After coming up with the idea to migrate from MacOS to Linux (debian) I carefully researched alternatives to all used programms, services and so on. Having found many better, some equal and some not-so-good equivalents for my software-zoo I happily moved over to debian 9.3.0 on a brandnew Ryzen 7 1700.
Ok, there are still two MacBook Pros running MacOS here.

What hit me in the back is the missing text expansion capability, hidden in the keyboard system extension of MacOS. Without noticing it, I collected quite some snippets in there over time. And now I'm missing the capability to just type 'BReg' and a space and will get automagically

I'm astonished that there is no really userfriendly solution for keyboard text expansion under Wayland/Linux.
I'm also astonished that there seems to be no solution path above evdev. And that this seems to be also the only way to get an desktop automation up and running.

So, what ever you are planning for evdevremapkeys, please keep an eye on not to close a way to a simple text expansion utility.

There's a great utility called AutoKey which does exactly what you describe here.

By the way, with a little bit of work (no, I'm kidding, with a lot of work) Linux can become much better than MacOS can ever be. Great choice moving!

Probably have to compile this one yourself, deb on official repositories is most likely broken.
You can also try running autokey-gtk from the terminal to try and see what error you get, it's known to be a little bit troublesome to get it so work.
