Config worked fine for over a year, suddenly stopped blocking ads but only via VPN connection. No updates recently coincide with the sudden failure to block ads remotely.
iPhone connects via Wireguard to Firewalla Purple. All functions are fine, able to access Pi-Hole, Homebridge, Home Assistant etc.
Firewalla is DHCP server, all Firewalla DNS 'booster' and adblocking disabled.
Only issue is the iPhone connected via VPN doesn't block ads, when connected via WIFI all functions are fine.
Deleted/reconfigured VPN profile multiple times. ensured profile has pi-hole dns configured.
iPhone has all iCloud relay disabled, private ip etc all disabled.

I'm an amateur at best reading logs, is there anything that I'm clearly missing? thanks.
