sudo (root) password lost

Hello, I have here rather stupid situation.

I cannot retrieve the password for root.
I have changed the pw for root with keepass autotype and that probably was a mistake.

How can I change the root password? I followed the trick "init=/bin/sh" in the cmdline.txt, but PiKVM refuses to boot.
