Clean up .gitignore and suggest using global ignores

With the rise of metals, the '.gitignore' files are becoming more and more polluted (eclipse, intelliJ's *.iml and .idea flavors, .metals,...). We should remove all those and suggest using global ignores. See #25 (review)
