How to add new type of field to data model

If I specify a datamodel -> fields element in my local biber.conf file, do I have to redefine all the default fields, or can I simply add to the list? Likewise for entryfields elements.

It should merge it with the default data model.

Thank you. This does indeed see to be the behaviour, but good to confirm.
