Add front-end statistics to book pages

Opened this issue · 0 comments

Feature Description

Allow the reading statistics for a book to be displayed on the front end of Pressbooks. This should be configurable by an administrator on a per-instance basis, and if possible, on a per-book basis. At the very least, this configuration should allow activation and de-activation of the feature.

These statistics would include what's currently available within the admin analytics - please see attached mockup for detail. Note that the mockup removes the increase/decrease percentages, as well as the text explanation of same.

Also, if a book has a digital object identifier, this could be used to incorporate an Altmetric badge on the book's page.

Feature Use Case

As a Pressbooks Author, I would like to see how others are using my work without having to ask for the statistics. Understanding this will help me improve my work, and better understand the impact it has.

As an Organisational Leader, I would like to see how the Pressbooks my organisation is publishing are doing. This will allow me to highlight success stories, and provide a visible value to the work that's gone into producing a Pressbook.

Other Notes

The front-end stats widget may be simplified by removing the date selector, though some idea of timeframe for the stats should be given, for context.
