interpolate_crossection() does not work with yearly data

It seems as if the date_var argument in interpolate_crossection() is not compatible with the year variable. If the intended use of date_var is to be able to interpolate more than one cross-section at a time (be compatible with yearly data), this should be looked into.
I get the following error message:
