Happened during the 2015 finals, but cannot be reproduced easily in the unit tests. Needs to be more extensively investigated.

The exact problem was a deadlock during the VM initialization IIRC.

Tested on openjdk8 + archlinux, works fine. I'll reopen this issue if it happens again.
