Describe the FR

Apparently the Opl with GSM crashes when attempting to use with Xploder HDTV player as the output changer to 480p even when GSM is off. Allegedly the compatibility and output when using Xploder HDTV Player is superior compared to GSM especially when it comes to field rendering games. A variant of opl without gsm may also help with compatibility with the stand alone GSM that can output in 1080p.

Describe the solution you'd like

Please make a late beta opl build/variant without the built in GSM. To help opl's compatibility with Xploder HDTV Player disc or the stand alone GSM that can output at 1080p.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Additional context

Xploder HDTV Player is an alternative to GSM. The iso is available on coolrom.com but have yet been able to get it to boot. The iso file appears as crazytaxi however i can confirm its the iso since i have purchased the disc as-well used on ebay. The disc boots but crashes opl. The built in GSM that comes on opl seems to be the issue.

Bro we can't do that, because GSM does the upscaling the images for moderns tvs plus solves some pal and ntsc TV issues(More like specific resolutions) however if your is your tv doesn't support X resolution on opl and in the games the best way to do is: Openining a issue speaking that problem.
Xploder HDTV is limited than GSM and opl's GSM plus it only apply patches through discs, no usb and no hdd

Apparently Xploder works with the old ver. 9 opl. So it does work with opl. The goal is to get more games to output 480p pleasantly and not be limited to gsm. Sly cooper 1 is a field rendered game and works with gsm at 480p but looks many times worse than standard 480i. A clean updated version of opl without gsm will be ideal

" How to use Xploder HDTV Player with OPL

Requires an original retail disc. Should work with an ESR patched Xploder disc, but I can't test this as my drive's dying.

Launch Xploder disc from "Lauch Disc".
Choose the desired resolution.
Eject Xploder, leave the tray empty, close it, and hit "Start".
After failing to launch, you'll be back in the Xploder menu.
Hit "Start" again, the PS2 will reboot into system menu with the resolution active.

Launch OPL v0.9 without built in GSM, version 1 with GSM hangs even when GSM is set to "Off".
select "Game Options" and enable "Mode 1 = On" (enables accurate disc read speed)

The game will boot with resolution settings active! IGR works, so you only need to do the boot process once as long as it's active.

The ELF version of Xploder hangs on "Starting Game" and the ISO version hangs on a white screen in OPL.

Please post any findings you may have." (https://www.psx-place.com/threads/how-to-use-xploder-hdtv-player-with-opl.43750/)

I dont see Xploder being superior to GSM visually as i use both, that has yet to be determined. But i believe it can be beneficial for field rendering games and maybe incompatible GSM games. Though not convenient my setup will probably consist of a fmcb card with both a clean opl ver and a standard opl to get the highest 480p compatibility.

If it happens when GSM is disabled then it's unlikely that GSM is causing the issue. It must be something else related to the way OPL initialises the screen. The sensible solution would be to improve GSM so it works better with field rendered games.

So opl does run with xploder but crashes after trying to run a game. Either way your right that is the sensible solution. But also like a prior person said the more options the better. Maybe creating a stand alone elf version of xploder will be more feasible but i have been unsuccessful in my attempts.
