when i open emacs, strange character live in the window, like this:

Aha! That's due to the line character used for display-fill-column-indicator, see here:

(setq-default display-fill-column-indicator-character ?\u254e)

Probably the font you're using doesn't have that glyph, and also there's no system-wide fallback font that has it either.

The character is actually very standard, though — has been around since 1993: https://codepoints.net/U+254E
