matplotlib installs though wont work

Before opening an issue for PyPI, please note the following:

• This is for the codebase currently running pypi.python.org
• Warehouse is soon to replace this codebase. Some issues may be deferred to the issue tracker for Warehouse rather than be addressed here.
• We do not maintain individual packages installed from PyPI, please seek out the maintainer

downloaded and installed matplotlib, and verified that it would work.
python calls result in an error, that appears to be in numbers.py

found updated matplotlib file and installed that, after removing prior install, verified it. still get the same error.
checked path variables, look ok.
