It was my bad to accidentally overwrite an old APK that was available for pre-Oreo users on Google Play. But due to the limitation introduced by Google - there is no way back. Old version of the code would be rejected by google on submission.
Thus, Google Play version would be in "as is" mode with no new updates.
This is due to limitations of Google Play - it now requires apks to be built with at least API level 26, while this API level deprecates API necessary for notification customization (custom sound, custom vibration pattern, custom LED colors - it is all gone from Google Play builds).
So please, to get all the old features back - re-install this app from F-Droid. Google Play rules forbid providing links to 3rd party stores or links to apks, thus just google it - "Calendar Notifications site:f-droid.org"
