Old syntax mode XML format not supported in MonoDevelop 7.x: mono/monodevelop#4154
Looks like Sublime syntax is new de-facto standard: https://github.com/mono/monodevelop/tree/master/main/src/core/MonoDevelop.Ide/MonoDevelop.Ide.Editor.Highlighting/syntaxes
