A note on this and builds in general: I ran npm audit which told me to upgrade webpack. I did (to @4.41.2), which then caused jupyter lab build to hang on npm pack. I missed the audit message SEMVER WARNING: Recommended action is a potentially breaking change. So, staying with webpack 3.x

Since the widgets have been deployed on beta-jupyter.radiasoft.org I suppose this has been satisfied
