Running FACTS at GFDL

Opened this issue · 4 comments

@bobkopp, @jkrasting I wanted to start a conversation about configuring FACTS to run on the GFDL HPC system. I think the current version of FACTS would be more feasible to run at GFDL given that it does not require MongoDB and RabbitMQ servers anymore (as far as I know). I started to install FACTS using the overall guidelines in the quickstart documentation on my workstation at GFDL, but there are some open questions related to the resource specification, particularly with the HPC setup using the RADICAL-EnsembleToolkit (EnTK) and RADICAL-Pilot packages. What would be the best way to get started on setting up FACTS at GFDL? Is there someone who can help me setting it up?

I think you had best talk to @AlexReedy, though at some point he may need to bring in the RADICAL.

This is currently being sorted out with RCT, they are working on getting @jetesdal a configuration file so he can run on his HPC system.

Speaking of which @jetesdal any updates on that?

Hi @AlexReedy, thanks for checking in. I’ve been talking to @jkrasting about the next steps. There’s some concerns about the setup at the GFDL system. I think we would be able to run FACTS on a single node, and your suggestions to edit the existing localhost configuration file might be all we need to do. We’re also thinking of implementing it on another cluster that is similar to Amarel and already has a configuration file, but I still need to install FACTS there and see if it works. I'll update you soon if there are any issues.

@jetesdal Where did you leave this with Alex?
