after running
./bish-bosh --verbose 2 -- /tmp/bish-bosh.example

I get
bish-bosh: INFO: Using backend 'socat' (on path '/usr/bin/socat') with port '1883'

running on a raspberry pi with latest release of jessie

I'm sorry, I didn't notice this in the flurry of emails over Christmas. Have you tried running with the version in git?

Not at this time. I need someone to try a modified copy with `set -x` to see what the lead up to the failure is.
