Add explaining graphic to the frontpage

We should add a graphic to the frontpage (empty area that's reserved for it anyway) that explains the concept or at least the most important parts of it visually. I'm thinking about something like on http://nimbusbase.com

It should at least explain:

  • RS syncs data between different devices
  • Different apps can access the same data
  • There can be an unlimited number of different remoteStorage servers/services

Maybe we can start thinking about how to visualize this, so that whoever has the vector graphic chops can use that information for creating the graphics?

I agree that something like whats on the nimbusbase site would work well to give the user an instant visualization.

Maybe something like:

[Web Application] <--> [Your Private Remote Storage]

[Sign up for your private remote storage here] (link to list, which should also have graphic logos, not just a text bullet-list)

I'm sure there needs to be more, just throwing out a starting point...

Let's not mix the missing call-to-action with the graphics at this point. We can discuss user guidance and call-to-action in another issue.

agreed, we need some sort of diagram. what about the one that's under the "what? no backend? ..." header on https://unhosted.org/ ? that was designed by @fkooman for https://unhosted.org/flyer.html ("how does it work?" section) and i still like it a lot more than The Ugly One TM https://twitter.com/dukeleto/status/401786732871311360

That one is not suitable for end users and not enough to explain the points I listed that we need to explain.

It shouldn't be just a diagram, but a nice infographic depicting real-world usage.

What do you hear by :

There can be an unlimited number of different remoteStorage servers/services

What's the interest of having your data spread over several servers if you wish also interconnect your data across multiple apps ?

What I meant was not that a single person should use multiple storage accounts and providers (although you can, e.g. one for you personal data, and another one hosted by your company for work data). It's about the fact that there's no one central provider like with normal cloud storage offerings, but that there can be an unlimited number of organizations and individuals offering storage or hosting their own.

Ok, this is more clear for me now.

what's our plan for this?

I edited the graphic and integrated it on the new frontpage.

Sorry for not have advanced more.
Tell me if you need that I rework on it.Sorry for
